Physical benefits of seawater

According to the studies of Dr. Teresa Castro Villaverde, the consumption of seawater provides numerous benefits for human beings, such as:

  • Seawater contains all the elements of the periodic table, being an excellent mean of beneficial substances for our body
  • Undiluted it has antibiotic and bactericidal properties as well as healing properties, making it very effective in small wounds and inflammations of the mucous membranes (pharyngitis, oral thrush such as mouthwash, rhinitis and sinusitis performing nasal washes ...)
  • It can also be used as a laxative.
  • If we make a dilution of 1 part of seawater with 3 of fresh water, we can turn it into a very useful rehydrating serum in case of dehydration due to gastroenteritis or after practicing sports. Its nutrients help muscular recovery.

Its salt content is around 36gr/liter, so moderate use is recommended in cases of diets with salt restriction.

Culinary benefits of seawater

Seawater is an ideal ingredient for the preparation of meat or fish recipes due to its many properties. Damián Alonso (Studyinfood) has highlighted the following benefits of the use of seawater in gastronomy:

  • In the previous preparation of fish, since it is a liquid brine and the livelihood of fish and shellfish. By immersing the product in seawater a few minutes before its preparation, it absorbs the appropriate amount of salt and moisture.

  • It is an excellent broth to prepare all kinds of dishes, the best substitute for a fish fumet.

  • Ideal for making bakery and pastry doughs. It helps enhance the flavor due to the percentage of salt that it contains.
